Cardiff University Hospital Site - Student Life

Housing: Campus relatively cheap; small number of houses/flats for married students; rented houses a lot more (noticeboards, college lists, agencies).

Eats: Meal on campus for £2.50+. Excellent variety of restaurants in town (eg Slug & Lettuce, Pizza Express), many vegetarian and ethnic eateries; many offer student discount.

Drink: Med Club cheap. Beer at £1 a pint at several clubs in town.

Nightlife: Sherman Theatre; cinemas. Students half-price Wed afternoons at most cinemas; cheap stand-by tickets at most theatres. Bands frequently at Cardiff Uni. Good clubs eg Liquid Evolution, Zeus, Po Na Na's.

Locals: Very friendly; city is very safe.

Sports: All SU sports club free; National Sports Centre reasonable. Sports and social club on campus has reasonable membership fee.

Travel: Scholarships available to help fund electives.

Financial help: Access funds. Also interest-free emergency loans.

Jobs: Students work in Med Club Bar (in later stages of medical/dental courses, students have little/no time to work due to long academic terms).

Best features: Well-deserved and notorious reputation of partying hard.

And worst: The work.

Informal name: Still sometimes UWCM (University of Wales College of Medicine).
