Glamorgan University - Student View

Based 10 miles from Cardiff in Treforest, near Pontypridd, it's easy to reach by either road (close to the M4) or rail (from Cardiff every 20 minutes or so).

Main campus is superbly equipped, offering all the facilities you need, including SU, recreation centre, library, 24-hour computer rooms and halls of residence. SU has a nightclub, 2 pubs, laundrette and whole range of student support (including trained welfare officer, a women's and equal opportunities officer, an education officer to look out for all your academic, health, housing and other welfare needs).

SU team also represents students to the university, local council and NUS, it runs campaigns to promote student awareness and get the student voice heard (eg grants-not-fees and cancer awareness).

SU provides opportunities for all to get involved with sports and activities, from football to snowboarding, LGB to ghost and paranormal societies; whatever you're into, it's covered and if not, you can start a club yourself with SU support. Well-equipped recreation centre with gym, sauna and sunbeds; many national and high-profile teams use the playing fields and astroturf pitches.

A large number of international students and opportunities for student exchanges. Wide range of courses; premier chiropractic schools and good business school, as well as great courses in media, drama, design, engineering, astronomy. Nursing and law schools nearby at Glyn Taff campus. Library good but demand is high at peak times. Workloads vary from 10-30 hour weeks and most courses are assessed with mix of coursework, exams or presentations; on many courses you can play to your strengths and interests.

Campus halls are either new, well-equipped and ensuite, or more traditional corridor structure. Most students live out within 10 minute radius of campus.

Union is one of the main venues for student life, providing a varied and exciting programme of events and entertainments. Also an array of local pubs with much to offer and, with Cardiff on the doorstep, you are never short of ways to entertain yourself.
