Housing: Full range on campus; university housing association. Relatively cheap.
Eats: Meal about £2 on campus. At the union, Smiths and Butties offer a range of hot and cold food. Not much choice locally but some good pub grub; plenty of good restaurants in Cardiff.
Drink: Union bars cheapest in area (£1.45 a pint). Plenty of good local pubs eg The Rickards.
Nightlife: Shafts (union nightclub) open nightly with ents eg live bands, discos, cabaret, quiz, films and great summer ball; Atomic Kitten, Reef, Blue, Liberty X, Robbie Williams, Timmy Mallett etc. Cardiff has several top nightclubs, cinemas, theatres and venues.
Locals: Not too load and getting better.
Sports: On-campus sports centre offers a range of facilities (good climbing wall, squash courts). Local swimming pools.
Travel: Train service from Treforest to Cardiff every 20-30 mins (then access to other mainline stations easily reached). Buses from campus to Pontypridd and surrounding area. Free SU shuttle bus takes off-campus students home after evening ents. Good union travel shop.
Hardship fund: University access funds - no problems if your case can be documented. Small emergency loans from union.
Jobs: Union employs many students eg stage crew, receptionists, bar staff, DJs; also has info on jobs in uni and locality.
Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition tees) is £2700 (in uni accommodation), £2500 (in private accommodation).
Informal name: Glam Uni.
Best features: SU nightlife; friendly, community atmosphere.
And worst: Uni is on a steep hill and it rains.
