Aberystwyth University - Student Life

Housing: All 1st years, many 3rd years, in university accommodation. Variety of halls with different catering systems and few married quarters. Good accommodation office for high standard of local housing.

Eats: Good facilities on campus; main meal £3. The Joint coffee bar, Munchies takeaway and sandwich bar. Wetherspoons offers 2 meals for £6+ and many pubs offer good value food.

Drink: Three plush union bars serving good, cheap beer: £1.70+ a pint for Fosters/Worthington, many promos. Good town pubs: Rummers, Inn on the Pier, The Mill, Yr Hen Lew Du -many have special offers.

Nightlife: Student society nights best ents in town; bands (including Idlewild, Electric Six), discos, comedians; variety of musical clubs and societies. Student discounts at Aberystwyth Arts Centre based on campus.

Locals: Very friendly. Best feature: Very friendly.

Sports: Everything available for £29 pa. Large campus sports centre, astro-pitch and pool.

Travel: STA Travel shop on campus offering discounted student travel. Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition fees) is £3000 (in uni accommodation). £3600 (in private accommodation). Hardship fund: Interest-free loans and donations for extreme cases.

Jobs: Many students take part-time work (hotels, pubs, restaurants and SU). University service finds 12-week summer placements with graduate employers. JobShop in SU helps match students with local part-time work.

And worst: Possible to feel isolated.
