Queen Margaret University College - Student View

A modern, attractive and rapidly expanding college; 3 campuses across the city of Edinburgh. The main Corstorphine campus is 4 miles west of the city centre in beautifully landscaped grounds and is well-equipped (tennis and squash courts, swimming pool, multi-activity all-weather surface, library, 24-hour IT centre, gym, theatre, kitchens, food science labs, drama, media and TV studios, photography lab etc).

Second campus at Leith is in a beautifully restored Grade 1 listed building; it caters for healthcare courses and has excellent facilities (including library, IT centre, cafe, student common room).

Third campus is the Gateway Theatre (Scottish Television Gateway Studios, opened in 1999), providing state-of-the-art facilities for drama students.

Despite rapid expansion, the college maintains a friendly and sociable atmosphere. Approx 20% of students live in newly refurbished halls (now show-home standard!); laundry facilities and a small shop on campus. Many students choose to live in town after first year; large numbers of students in Edinburgh, so accommodation is expensive and sometimes difficult to find.

The SU runs events most evenings such as karaoke, theme nights (Big Brother, Weakest Link, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Pop Idol, etc), quizzes, bingo, comedy nights, films, band nights and many more, the most popular student night being Wednesdays.

Courses range from healthcare to business and many departments are known for their excellence (eg occupational therapy and physiotherapy); more arts and management courses being introduced. Most courses are modular; low drop out rate. Majority of students are Scottish with a growing contingent of scandinavians, especially Norwegians. High graduate employment rate in variety of fields; many courses also give a professional qualification.
