Heriot-Watt University Main Campus - Student Life
Housing: On campus accommodation and university-leased flats. Off campus - careful reading of adverts in papers may yield bargains; also help from uni and union.
Eats: Meal on campus about £2. Student deals in some pubs.
Drink: Good drink promos in union; local brews (eg Belhaven) in some local pubs.
Nightlife: SA has many local and up-and-coming bands; free bands midweek in some local pubs. Several 'alternative' theatres and cinemas. Good variety of clubs.
Locals: Some dodgy areas but most fine.
Sports: Good sports centre on campus, swimming pools nearby.
Financial help: Access funds. Small emergency loans possible from SA.
Jobs: Much bar and restaurant work, call centres etc. Many departments help with course-related jobs.
Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition fees) is £4715 (in uni accommodation), £5140 (in private accommodation).
Best features: Beautiful location; peaceful but close enough to city for fun nights out.
And worst: The swans who take pleasure in chasing innocent students around the pond!
