Edinburgh College of Art - Student View
Right in the middle of town, with a brilliant view of the castle, it is near just about everything - art galleries, theatres, cinemas, shops, libraries, pubs, restaurants and Wonderland toyshop.
The main building is a fascinating piece of Victorian architecture, dominated inside by the sculpture court - the main exhibition space. Associated with Edinburgh University, it still retains its own governing body, is independently funded and has retained its own identity.
The college consists of two faculties - environmental and art & design, both very highly thought of. SU is very active within the college; its office is busy but friendly and there's always someone on hand for welfare, accommodation or legal advice.
SU has internet PCs; photocopying and telephone facilities; darkroom available for black and white processing and printing (in and out of college hours), and a much-used music room. SU-run snack bar, Albertina's, offers the cheapest chip buttie in town and the Wee Red Bar, at weekends, is a legendary club venue.
There are numerous societies active within the college including the Christian Union, Archie (architects), Slag (landscape architects), Scoop (sculpture co-operative), film, entertainments and painting.
