Aberdeen University - Student View

Aberdeen is a prosperous city, due mainly to the North Sea oil and gas industries, so low unemployment rates and a comfortable standard of living.

In the north east of Scotland but relatively easy to get to, especially through cheap flights from Dublin and London (several budget airlines), and by rail, coach and ferry.

Ideally placed for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits such as walking and climbing. Surrounding landscape and local wildlife is spectacular.

University is 500+ years old (third oldest in Scotland, fifth in UK). King's College Campus is based in Old Aberdeen, which boasts cobbled streets and medieval architecture. Landscaped campus is bordered by a park and its own botanical gardens. Medical and life sciences are based at Foresterhill, in modern state-of-the-art laboratory buildings. Both campuses are within walking distance of city centre and well-served by local buses.

All first years are guaranteed a place in halls; residences are quite expensive but offer excellent warden support and great for making friends. Libraries are well-stocked and there is 24-hour access to computing facilities.

Students' Association represents students and works well with both the university and external support agencies. Over 50 sports clubs and 100+ societies. Association has two Unions, both of which have bars, games rooms and club venues. Student services provided by the SA include a weekly student newspaper, a debater, job shop, information and advice centre and accredited student volunteering schemes.
