Huddersfield University - Student View
Many students maintain that Huddersfield is the friendliest town in the north, and it's definitely student orientated. Main campus, Queensgate, is next to the town centre, easily recognisable by the Central Services Building which dominates the skyline of the idyllic West Yorkshire countryside.
Compact campus and you feel you can see and get to know everybody! Bus and train stations 10 minutes' walk through throbbing (commercially, socially and culturally), cosmopolitan town centre.
A plethora of student-friendly pubs and clubs; also Lawrence Batley Theatre, Kirklees Sports Centre and retail outlets for all tastes. If Huddersfield cannot fulfil individual tastes, then Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield are all about 30 miles away and easy to reach.
Most university accommodation is out of town, at the Storthes Hall campus; a large student village, fully serviced and a free bus service to university (every 15 minutes), it has a bar, sports facilities, car park and reputation to uphold! Plenty of private accommodation including Snow Island, another student village housing 450 students.
University offers a diverse range of courses from HND to postgraduate; successful industrial year-out for sandwich students - a must for students wishing for a practical education. Expanding all the time and major building works on-going. including refurbishment of derelict mills into award-winning lecture theatres, studios and offices.
Bookshop on campus, new-look refectory, computing facilities and learning resource centre. The SU acts as the centre of the universe for students. Facilities include a student advice centre, coffee bar, shop and 2 bars (SU runs a loyalty card scheme; get 10p on your card for every £1 spent at the bar).
Clubs and societies are striving to continue their good work regionally and nationally, from sports through to community action groups. SU has its own newspaper, Huddersfield Student, and radio station, Melt FM.
