Coventry University - Student View

Main campus is slap bang in the middle of the city, next to the cathedral and bus station. Close to five motorways - second best motorway access (after London) in the country; train station 15 mins' walk.

Uni accommodation is good and ever-expanding: Sherbourne House (with ensuite facilities) and recently extended Singer Hall both popular. Catered accommodation in Priory Hall is older but perfectly located, only a 2-minute stagger from the SU (handy on Friday nights!). Apollo House is 15 minutes away and Caradoc Hall a bit further out of town. Plenty of cheap private rented accommodation within walking distance; Stoke is most popular area, followed by Radford and Earlsdon.

Large and increasing numbers of part-time and mature students. SU good at campaigning and representation, and its advice centre is excellent.

Many courses have (inter)national reputation, including landmark courses like equine studies and international disaster engineering & management. Automotive design here spawned the Ford Ka, and the Merc 'A' Class made one ex-student Autocar designer of the year.

Improving teaching facilities and new library. Graduate enterprise scheme runs from recently opened Techno Centre to support graduates setting up businesses. University has good overall attitude to student support.

Fifty Four (LIV) is new multi-purpose entertainments venue, 4 bars that cater for all tastes and supply the cheapest drinks in town. Top nights are Trollied, karaoke and Flirt, all weekly. A chaplaincy and Islamic prayer room on site.

Coventry now bears no resemblance to the dodgy city it was in the seventies.
