Surrey Institute - Student Life
Housing: Epsom, new accommodation housing 60 students. Farnham has a student village and very helpful accommodation office. Halls/shared rooms, self-catering, for some 1st years (including all international students), can be around £50 a week. Student houses, bedsits etc found through SU noticeboards, accommodation lists, word of mouth - nearer £250 a month. Some students live at home but there are quite a few international students who mostly live in the town.
Eats: College refectory; meal deals all year round. Lots of restaurants around town (Indian, Chinese, Italian); lots of pubs to eat in.
Drink: SU bar (The Glasshouse) is cheap, has late licence and large selection of beers, spirits, lagers and cocktails.
Nightlife: Students' union - very well established and unique; SU nightclub with discos, bands, cabarets, films etc.
Locals: Friendly enough.
Jobs: Work available in local restaurants, supermarkets and cleaning.
Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition fees) is £7000.
Financial help: Very good.
Best features: Students union ents - it's the only nightclub to go to in Farnham.
And worst: Not enough places to go out.
Bad news: Accommodation getting more difficult to find.
