Keele University - Student View
It's renowned for its beautiful green campus (the largest in Europe), excellent student life and exciting approach to education.
It's in the centre of Britain, between Birmingham and Manchester, and close to the M6. This gives it the best of both worlds: being near a village gives it a rural feel, yet only a stone's throw from Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent.
Majority (70%) of students live on campus, which ensures a friendly, community feeling. Priority given to freshers and finalists, either in single rooms (with or without ensuite), or 4-person flats.
Many courses are dual Honours (2 subject combined degrees), including complementary studies in the first year, which gives students a breadth of study so they stand out from the crowd. A choice of over 700 degree courses; easy to change course in the first year, space permitting. Library opens 7 days a week until 10pm, with a short loans library for books in high demand.
Students' Union is central and one of the largest buildings on campus. Main bar 'The Lounge' open 7 days a week, ballroom with 1100 capacity, and nightclub (K2) has 450 capacity. Entertainments every night of the week (R&B, hip-hop, drum-n-bass, jazz, comedy, films, fancy dress ...) but Wed and Fri nights are the busiest (70s/80s discos, club dance nights, indie, rock, alternative). Many big names come to SU (The Darkness, Liberty X, The Thrills, Idlewild, Jools Holland, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Pulp, Misteeq, Atomic Kitten, Trevor Nelson, Paul Oakenfold . . .) and seasonal balls.
Currently over 50 societies, over 40 sports teams (organised by Athletic Union and run from the on-campus leisure centre). SU is run by a combination of enthusiastic students, sabbaticals and staff, aiming to provide the ultimate student experience.
