Large student population is very diverse, including 3000+ international students from 100+ countries. SU is active politically, runs 50+ sports clubs and 100+ societies (all information available from The Source), a nursery, women's room and safety bus, an LGB lounge, mature student's lounge, and Muslim prayer rooms. Its advice centre specialises in academic affairs, immigration, finance, housing.

SU is social hub with 3 nightclubs, 2 bars, coffee shop and very large cinema. There are up to 20 events/gigs a week. Halls of residence are 15 mins from the SU. Relationship between university and SU generally good.
