Housing: 6 good halls; flats and university houses high standard (rents quite high). Private housing through uni housing service, noticeboard in SU, private bureau with approved landlords.

Eats: Meal from £1.50 on campus. Worldwide range of foods available. Some good veggie restaurants and cheap markets in Castle Square.

Drink: Excellent SU bars (pint from £1) including the unique Interval Cafe= Bar, ever popular Bar One, and its own two pubs, the Fox & Duck (Broomhill, a main student area) and Rising Sun (Fulwood, a quieter area). A chain of Union-run coffee shops, Coffee Revolution, selling Fair Trade and organic coffee.

Nightlife: SU gigs, most weekly; Tuesday Club (drum'n'bass), Juice, Fuzz Club (rock and Indie), FROUK, Pop Tarts, Climax (LGB), dance night etc; lots of clubs in Sheffield, jazz and comedy. Many cinemas including Showroom (large independent complex); SU theatre very active, many plays at the University Drama Studio; also Lyceum and Crucible.

Locals: Fantastic.

Sports: 50+ clubs. Five star university facilities; excellent pool.

Travel: Excellent travel shop; very cheap ferry, coach, rail and flights. Well-connected rail network and regular buses out to the Peaks.

Financial help: University loans. Access funds.

Jobs: Some casual and part-time work in SU. Employment agency on campus. 30% have jobs in term-time, 60% over the summer.

Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition fees) is £5000 (in uni or private accommodation).

Best features: Students' Union - widely regarded as one of the best in the country.

And worst: Hills.
