Worcester - Student View
Imagine a place where verdant lawns and fragrant roses give way to a still and sparkling lake. Imagine a place where the sounds of a Sunday afternoon are that of leather on willow and the gurgle of another Pimms being poured. Imagine a place where you learn from your tutor as an equal, where your ideas are heeded and criticised. Imagine sitting down to a three-course dinner in an historical Hall, wearing academic gowns. Imagine living in noble, elegant buildings or in ancient, warm cottages. Imagine a vigorously fought karaoke competition taking place in the bar and the entire rugby team performing YMCA.
Worcester College has all this and more to offer students. We are the secret garden of Oxford, with huge, rambling gardens, a lake and our very own, on-site playing fields.
Worcester upholds the old Oxford adage of 'work hard, play hard'. To the former end, we have some of the greatest minds teaching challenging courses to a very high level and well-stocked, 24 hour libraries; to the latter, we have a great cellar bar under the cloisters, a buttery for sitting by a log fire sipping at coffees and chatting the days away, and a notoriously social student body ever itching to party.
Whatever tickles your fancy, Worcester will be able to float your boat: we have great sports teams in all the disciplines - rugby, rowing, soccer, hockey, cricket, lacrosse - the drama society is particularly active, and our two chapel choirs are among the best in Oxford.
With all this to offer, no wonder the average Worcester student was recently described as 'happy, well-adjusted, effortlessly brilliant, modest to the point of self effacement, Byronic in his wasted talents, a sparkling conversationalist and wit, and a respectable football player.'
