Worcester - Student Life

Housing: First, second and some third years live in college accommodation, at around £700 per term. Other third years live out and face high Oxford rents.

Eats: Very cheap (£1.60 dinner for 3 courses). Famed for its impressive formal halls with the best food in Oxford - every night except Saturdays. Lots of local restaurants and eateries.

Drink: Very cheap college bar (£1.20 a pint). Oxford Union very close (£1 a pint). Popular pubs: Radcliffe Arms, Turf Tavern, Kings Arms. Popular bars: Thirst, Freuds, Duke of Cambridge.

Nightlife: In-college parties, cocktail nights and discos. Filth, DTMs and Park End provide cheesy nights out, The Bridge, Green and Zodiac are classier. Close to both arty and mainstream cinemas, and to the Union for debates, speaker events and parties.

Music: Classical concerts frequent and of very high quality. Pop, cult and student bands fairly easy to find, but no big stadium. Jazz very popular and prevalent.

Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition fees) is £3500. Oxford is expensive but it is full of students; if you shop around you're bound to find discounts.

Jobs: College does not allow term-time jobs - there's too little time.

Hardship funds: Available, as are generous book and travel grants.

Best features: The fun, intelligent student body; the glorious grounds; the scrummy food; the dynamic and challenging courses.

And worst: Degrees only last three years!
