Founded: 1714; women undergraduates first admitted 1979.

Admission: College welcomes both pre and post A-level candidates from all types of schools and colleges. Most offers AAA at A-level. Undergraduates not admitted for archaeology & anthropology, biochemistry, human sciences, materials science, oriental studies (chinese/japanese).

Scholarships: Scholarships and exhibitions are awarded in the second year for academic work. Two instrumental awards are available each year to any undergraduate.

Travel grants: Available annually; also those undertaking fieldwork.

Library & information services: Undergraduate library including individual reading cubicles; law library and a number of valuable antiquarian collections. Separate IT facilities, access 24 hours/day. Ratio 1:32 workstations to students. Internet connections in every student room. IT support from part-time computing manager and full-time assistant.

Eating arrangements: Informal lunches available; choice of self-service or formal dinner. Gate/guest hours: Undergraduates are issued with a security key.

Other college facilities: Cellar bar, buttery, 26 acres of college grounds including mini-gym, squash courts, 7 tennis courts, playing fields; boathouse.

Accommodation: First and second years accommodated in single study bedrooms in college; approx 30 rooms available for third years. Rents from £675-£770 per term; meals paid for as taken. No first degree students live at home.

Term-time work: College allows term-time work to a limit of 4 hours per week. Work available in college bar, hall, occasional admin and research work.
