Founded: 1249; women undergraduates first admitted 1979.
Admission: Undergraduates not admitted for archaeology & anthropology; biology; geography; history & english; history & politics; human sciences; philosophy & theology; theology; in some modern language courses, one language must be russian.
Scholarships: Various scholarships and exhibitions, awarded after first year (except organ and choral scholarships which are awarded upon entry). Book grants also available.
Travel grants: A number awarded each year.
Library & information services: 2 libraries, 50,000 volumes, of which 35,000 on open shelves. 100 reader seats. Computing room (MS-DOS machines and Apple Macs, some connected to university network).
Other college facilities: Music practice room. Squash court. Sports ground a mile from college (including hard and grass tennis courts).
Accommodation: College accommodation available to undergraduates in first 3 years if wanted. 330 places available at rent of £88 per week, term time. Annual room rent £2209; charge for meals in hall (approx £6 for 3 meals). No first degree students live at home.
Term-time work: College allows term-time work within college only (5-10% believed to work).
Financial help: £30,000 own funds, 300 students helped; plus £5000 other funds, awards £100-£150.
Special help: own funds available for accommodation costs. Bursaries for students from low-income families (up to £4000 pa).
