Founded: 1893 as a women's college.

Admission: Women only; on the basis of academic results, interview and, in some subjects, submission of school written work.

Largest fields of study: English, modern languages, PPE, law, history, mathematics, biological sciences.

Travel grants: About £6000 annually, including grants for undergraduates' travel abroad, for classics students and for historians' travel grants.

Library & information services: Good range of books for most Honours schools. Separate college IT and library services. Ratio 1:15 workstations to students, 30 points with access to library and internet. IT facilities open 24 hours/day: IT support from 2 staff members; courses on bibliographic databases.

Eating arrangements: Maintenance fee includes meal tickets for a certain number of meals in hall; additional tickets can be bought as required (breakfast £1.49; main meal £2.98).

Gate/guest hours: During week, open to all 9 am to 11 pm and to accompanied visitors until 2 am; overnight visitors must be signed in.

Other college facilities: Music building, pianos and harpsichord, small chapel, tennis court, croquet lawn, netball court, punts, computers and printers (with access to university computing facilities), JCR bar, buttery, washing machines and spin driers, cooking facilities.

Accommodation: 70% of all students in college accommodation, all first years. 283 full-board places at £85 per week term time only. Students normally live in privately owned accommodation for 1 year. Virtually no first degree students live at home.

Term-time work: College allows some paid term-time work. after consultation with tutors. Some work in college library; in JCR bar in holidays.

Financial help: £25,000 own support funds (for undergraduates and graduates) average award £100-£200.
