Pembroke - Student View

Renowned for being one of the friendliest and most sociable colleges in Oxford. There is a strong sense of college loyalty, underpinned by the JCR whose meetings (fuelled by a tree supply of pizza and alcohol!) are the best-attended in Oxford and are highly entertaining as well as carrying political clout.

Pembrokians are most famous for their success on the river - recently making Oxford rowing history by winning the double headship in Eights. Sport is generally a strong point, both for serious athletes and those who just want to have fun, but music and drama are also well represented.

The college itself is small, historic and very pretty, with the beautiful gardens really coming into their own in the summer term when students spend the days sunbathing and playing croquet on Chapel Quad. College bar is hub of social scene. Jan's Pantry for daytime snacks and gossip and motherly good advice from Jan.

Facilities are excellent, both on main site and in the new and very well-equipped Geoffrey Arthur Building (GAB - just a few minutes down the road and overlooking the river, which houses the finalists).

Academically sound without having the scholastic sweatshop pressures of some colleges, few places can boast of having such a close-knit yet welcoming community, making Pembroke a truly unique experience.
