Merton - Student View
One of the oldest and most beautiful colleges in Oxford, it provides a comfortable atmosphere in which to work and play. Socially, it is relaxed, friendly and increasingly heterogeneous (there are now as many female applicants as male).
JCR is active in providing a varied and broad-based social calendar that includes bi-weekly bops, live bands, jazz evenings, bar quizzes and cheap outings (laser questing, paint balling and ice skating among others). Also flourishing music and drama societies, well-supported choir and triennial Christmas Ball.
Much participation in many sports - both at college level and, for a few stars, university level as well. Recent successes achieved in football, men's and women's rugby, rowing, squash, pool and croquet!!!
Excellent library facilities, outstanding tutors and motivated students achieve high academic success; large numbers of students go on to read for a second degree.
Merton's small size and easy-going student body mean that it quickly becomes your home, providing a base from which to venture into whichever aspects of Oxford life you desire.
