Founded: 1878; men undergraduates first admitted 1979.

Admission: Interviews and sometimes written tests (with a view to a conditional offer for pre A-level candidates). Undergraduates not admitted for geology, metallurgy, geography or for oriental studies other than Hebrew.

Scholarships: Awarded to undergraduates in residence on academic merit; organ scholarship; various college essay prizes.

Travel grants: Maude Royden long vacation travelling exhibition. Other grants in connection with academic work.

Library & information services: Open 24 hours; over 50,000 books on open shelves; law reading room; science reading room.

Eating arrangements: All meals available in hall. JCR kitchen/pantries on all floors.

Gate/guest hours: Gate closed at midnight; all members of college issued with keys. Guest hours, 9 am to midnight (2 am at weekends).

Other college facilities: Bar, music practice rooms, 2 grand pianos and several upright pianos, tennis courts, croquet lawn, boathouse. Squash court, shared facilities for other sports.

Accommodation: All but about 35 undergraduates are able to live in college; single study bedrooms (some third years rooms en-suite). Standard accommodation charge of £2740 pa.

Financial help: Limited grants available for unexpected hardship during course.
