Founded: 1284; women undergraduates first admitted 1974.
Admission: Places on the basis of an interview in December. Entry is competitive with the emphasis being on promise.
Academic features: English, law, geography, engineering, Japanese and all mainstream subjects.
Study abroad: Formal exchange links with the London University Institute in Paris for modern linguists, and with Japanese universities.
Library & information services: Undergraduate and antiquarian libraries. College IT and library services converged. Ratio of 1:28 workstations to students. All student rooms have full Internet connection. IT facilities open 24 hours/day; support from full-time IT officer and part-time student officers.
Eating arrangements: Swipe-card system, charged at end of term.
Gate/guest hours: All students issued with gate keys.
Other college facilities: JCR complex, lecture theatre, sports ground, boathouse, orchestra, choir, computer, bar, rowing, squash court, music practice room, multi-gym.
Accommodation: All undergraduates housed. 200 places in college, 230 in college houses. Standard charge £1570 for 25-week year (including laundry and heating); fixed kitchen charge to a maximum £175 (for those living in college). Very few first degree students live at home.
Term-time work: College does not normally allow term-time work.
