Brasenose - Student Life
Housing: Accommodation guaranteed for years 1, 3 and 4 (some 2nd years live out).
Eats: 3 large meals in college a day, incl good vegetarian options; 3 course meal in Hall £2.20+. Carfax chippy, Mehdi's Kebab Van.
Drink: College bars, (Grolsch, Carlsberg, Guinness), beer £1.30+ a pint. 4 central student pubs - Turf, Kings Arms (always full), White Horse (very small), the Bear.
Nightlife: Free college ents in bar, regular big screen events. Usual smash hit cinemas, plus the Phoenix (more arty). Lots of student drama.
Sports: BNC sports facilities good and close to college.
Travel: A few travel grants. Cheap bus to London and good national coach services.
Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition fees) is £6000.
Financial help: Strictly means tested. Have to be absolutely broke, and preferably injured, to get one. Vacation grants available.
Jobs: Term-time work strongly discouraged by the college. Some college bar work available; always tight in town during term because of number of students. Lots more around during vacations.
Best features: The bar.
And worst: Closing time.
