Housing: Uni accommodation competitively priced. For off-campus housing, look on SU noticeboard and housing guide booklet produced.

Eats: Hot meal from £3 at SU, £1.50 for a snack. Uni refectories slightly pricier.

Drink: £2-£2.50 a pint locally. SU stocks a wide range of beer and spirits (eg £1.65 a pint).

Nightlife: SU nightclubs. Recent stars include Jimmy Carr, Tim Westwood. Coolio, Chesney Hawkes, Rainbow Road Show. If that's not good enough, central London close enough for a night out.

Locals: Friendly.

Sports: Excellent sports centre on campus; facilities include climbing wall, 2 astroturf pitches, running track, sports halls, indoor and outdoor athletics tracks. Swimming pools close to each campus. Wide variety of sports offered through Union.

Financial help: Short-term welfare loans up to £150 from SU. Most students with serious problems get university help (apply in writing).

Jobs: Some in SU eg in bars, security and help desk (£4.25-£5 an hour). Other work locally eg shop assistants, similar pay.

Best features: Major facelift to the campus.

And worst: It looks like a building site in the meantime!
