Liverpool University - Student Life

Housing: Good quality self-catering; limited for married students. Liverpool Student Homes for off-campus accommodation.

Eats: Meal for £2.50+ on campus; excellent range of food in Guild until late evening (incl new bar/restaurant, international cuisine from £2.50); good food on rest of campus - but rarely at awkward hours. Vegetarian restaurants and food shops in town; great cheap eating places near university do lunchtime student specials. Meal for £3 in The Egg Cafe. No 7 Cafe.

Drink: Guild good for cheap drink (£1+ a pint). Slaters (Slater Street) and midweek pint in some clubs cheap.

Nightlife: Great ents - good value for money; great variety - comedy, bands (Coldplay, The Hives, The Doves, Faithless and The Vines). Good student clubs eg Krazy House.

Locals: Tremendously friendly and welcoming. No particular bad spots (though many students prefer not to live in Kensington).

Sports: Excellent university sports centre and swimming pool. Travel: Travel shop in the Guild can sort out train/coach fares.

Financial help: Limited Vice-chancellor's fund. Jobs: In many bars, clubs, shops and the Guild; careers service also helps.

Jargon: Guild (students union); the other place (Liverpool John Moores University).

Informal name: Liverpool Uni.

Best features: The students and the Guild; almost all teaching on one site (except vet field station and some research units).

And worst: None.
