Housing: Private accommodation through college or local paper; vast range of prices.

Eats: £2 for meal on campus. Old Nell's, Roebuck, Fives, Yates all do student deals (eg meal for fiver, 2 meals for price of 1).

Drink: SU bar £1.50+ a pint; Guys Thatched Hamlet (Wall Street) also cheap. Guys Brew, good and local.

Nightlife: Stumble Inn, Hypnotists, race nights, bands (eg Lord is Good To Me) on campus. Student clubs Tokyo Joes, Squires in Preston.

Locals: Very friendly. Avoid the canal!

Sports: Lots on campus; also Central Lancs Uni facilities.

Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition fees) is £4700 (in college accommodation), £5200 (in private accommodation).

Financial help: Some available.

Best features: Everybody knows everybody.

And worst: Transport.
