An attractive modern site in pleasant grounds 2 miles south of Lancaster. Very accessible - M6 and London-Scotland rail link and good access to other major cities. Excellent location for outdoor activity, particularly water sports and Lake District.
Most first years are guaranteed accommodation on campus and some rooms for third years; flats with 4-18 people sharing and improving vastly - all rooms have telephone, many have data (internet) points.
Each college has own bar, student-run JCR and tradition; keen rivalry between them produces very good atmosphere.
Active and powerful SU campaigning and providing information including: strong advice centre (international support, academic support, loans, pregnancy worries, HIV and disabilities awareness campaigns, campus watch scheme); athletic union (over 30 clubs); non-sporting and cultural societies (over 60).
Also SU runs shop, newspaper, radio station, RAG and off-campus housing office; also social events - Sugar House nightclub - on-campus concerts, balls etc. Courses extremely flexible; 3 subjects in first year, nearly all with some continuous assessment. Chance to study abroad in 2nd year. Staff generally very helpful and friendly. High proportion of mature students.
Friendly university; excellent atmosphere, international flavour.
