Housing: University headlease scheme; flats on campus. Married flats available. Graduate college on campus. Off-campus, ask SU Housing Office.
Eats: Excellent burger bar and Indian take-away on campus (meal about £3.50). Usual fast food, takeaways plus good international (eg mexican, italian, swiss) restaurants in town; meal £3 upwards.
Drink: 9 bars on campus (£1.60 a pint), lots of local pubs; good choice, reasonable prices (cheaper than down south).
Nightlife: Excellent off-campus student nightclub (Sugarhouse), good bands on and off campus; film club showing latest releases, theatre group excellent, live ents, comedians etc. Good nightlife in nearby Morecambe. Locals: Good relations. Sports: Sports centre on campus; swimming pool; active athletic union.
Travel: Good hitching and car-share schemes; women's safe transport; cycle paths. Buses regular (1, 2 or 3-term passes). Some travel scholarships from colleges.
Financial help: Limited funds available from university and colleges.
Jobs: Good term-time work, some in Sugarhouse and bars; SU Job Shop helps. In holidays, tourist and conference trade, catering department.
Buzz-words: LUSU (Lancaster University Students' Union).
Best features: The collegiate system; great social and familiar atmosphere.
And worst: Possible disturbances from building work with accommodation reshuffle.
Good news: Disability access greatly improved; environmental co-ordinator increasing promotion of green and recycling issues.
Bad news: Cutbacks in sciences.
