Housing: Little that is cheap in Canterbury; check accommodation lists, letting agencies.
Eats: Meal for £2+ on campus. Wide variety of cheap places, including ethnic (mexican to indian); The Lighthouse, Marlowes also good (£6-£15 a head).
Drink: Shepherd Neame excellent local brewer. Pubs: Hobgoblin, the Cherry Tree. Union bar far the cheapest (£1.60+ a pint).
Nightlife: SU club (late licence 6 nights/week) comedy, live music. The Venue, Works, Churchill's, Penny Theatre popular. Marlowe Theatre gets all major touring plays.
Locals: Generally quite friendly; lots of students in the area.
Sports: Good sports centre on campus. In town, sports centre and swimming pool. Travel: Buses cheap, trains adequate.
Financial help: Union welfare fund - limited budget. Access funds.
Jobs: Available if you are prepared to search and to work for peanuts; usually bar work in town.
Buzz-words: K, R, E, D - the four colleges, Keynes, Rutherford, Eliot, Darwin (all references to rooms abbreviate the college names). JCC - Junior College Committee (college part of the SU).
Best features: Great setting, lots of bars, good atmosphere.
And worst: Very windy.
