Hertfordshire University - Student Life
Housing: Halls on campus good. Loads of off-campus student houses available.
Eats: Cheap food in SU; meal on campus from £2.50. Surrounding area offers a range of eateries for all palates.
Drink: Pint for £1.80 in SU bars; good range of modern drinks and promotional offers. Otherwise expensive; Philanthropist & Firkin (St Albans) or White Horse (Hertford) for excellent trad beers.
Nightlife: Excellent SU ents, bands and music to suit all tastes. UCI 9-screen cinema close to Hatfield campus. St Albans (5 miles away) for pubs. Batchwoods Nightclub (SU deal on Thursdays). And London of course.
Locals: Could be friendlier.
Sports: New state of the art sports village. Lots of sports clubs.
Travel: Universitybus service between halls, campus and to north London (all journeys cost £1). Very good access to London.
Jobs: Most students on work-linked degrees. SU employment agency; bar, catering, security, shop work and admin.
Hardship fund: Extensive hardship fund available for students with money problems. Good student support facilities through SU advice and support centre, student finance centre and counselling service.
Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition fees) is £5200 (in uni accommodation), £5450 (in private accommodation).
Best features: Excellent facilities, both academically and socially.
And worst: Lack of local amenities.
Good news: New first class facilities, auditorium. Town centre redevelopment including building of a district centre (shops, pubs, social facilities).
