Portsmouth University - Student View

It's on one main site in the centre of Portsmouth; separated into three areas north, central and south. Buildings vary from modern tower blocks to beautiful old listed buildings and ex-barracks to modern designed innovative ones. There's plenty of private rented accommodation.

Student social life is hectic with ents every night - ranging from cheese to drum and bass - something for every musical interest. New student union building, with six bars in four venues, a restaurant, coffee shop and a take away service. The largest venue in the city (2500 capacity and open until 2am except Sunday): main venue, club LUX, where live bands play and club nights are hosted; CO2 (the chill out room) has a smaller more relaxed feel. Downstairs is the sports bar, the Waterhole, with a fun atmosphere and it doubles by day as the main restaurant; Embassy bar is the premium bar, which doubles up as the cocktail lounge. The coffee shop is the alcohol free area (serves fantastic coffee).

150+ clubs and societies offer everything from underwater hockey to football to bouncy castle society; water sports are especially popular. Commercial Road and Gun Wharf are great for shopping. New play every 2 weeks at the Kings Theatre.

Surveying, engineering and science courses excellent, and good sandwich courses. Cultural, literary and language studies are homely with friendly atmosphere. Portsmouth is a naval port and some pubs are services-orientated; most are full of friendly students and new ones opening all over the city. The Student Union runs bars and provides the best student services.
