Housing: Plenty of halls (over 3000 students); plenty of private accommodation from £50 pw.

Eats: SU and some pubs good value for money.

Drink: SU inexpensive. Most pubs have a cheap night.

Nightlife: SU nightclub; lively nightlife on the seafront, the Guildhall and Gun Wharf. Two massive cinemas.

Sports: Sports clubs subsidised by SU (and transport arranged to and from games). Portsmouth in premiership, if watching is more your thing!

Travel: Only an hour to London and other good rail links. Ferries to France.

Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition fees) is £3800.

Financial help: Plenty of hardship funds and a dedicated student finance centre.

Jobs: Union Jobshop helps find part-time and summer work locally.

Best features: The beach and sea in general; good transport links; cosmopolitan feel of city.

And worst: Having to leave! Fantastic university and union.
