University of Bolton - Student View

On two campuses, Deane and Chadwick, with over 7000 students between them; just outside the town centre and about 15 minutes' walk from one another.

Bolton is a large town (about 330,000) just north of Manchester and easily accessible by both train and the M61 (main route from Manchester to Preston). Halls of residence at Orlando Village and the Hollins both modern and comfortable: plenty of car parking space in security-patrolled grounds.

Orlando Village better suited for first years and a bit livelier; the Hollins, next to Chadwick Campus, is better suited to PGCE students and anyone wanting a quieter year. Plenty of private student accommodation dotted about the town.

Students' Union is on Deane Campus, inside a converted school building. It plays a big part in campus life and many students belong to one of its many sports clubs or societies. Union runs bar and catering services: bar has cheap beer and a terrific atmosphere. Its catering services have really good tasty food at low prices.

Town caters well for total student experience, with many great events throughout the year - old classics like 3-legged pub-crawl (beat 13 pubs in 28 minutes!), annual sports-persons dinner, comedy nights and new ideas all the time. Relatively easy to change course in first term; just ask the course leader.
