Manchester Business School - Student View

Emphasis on the Manchester Method, putting theory into practice; use of projects as major teaching tool, with less emphasis on more traditional exam and case study approach. Formal training in all the basic aspects of management, but the project dominates the course.

Subject matter varies but working with groups of fellow students is always required. This can be rewarding or frustrating (sometimes both) and teaches you how to rely on other people in pressurised situations. Strong individualists who find it difficult to work in teams have a tough time.

Students are all postgraduate; from a wide range of backgrounds with degrees ranging from medieval English literature to banking. Most have had significant work experience varying from being a diplomat in Beijing to running a small business - 18 months with this body of students is a great source of learning.

Courses require mental stamina and considerable personal commitment; the rewards in terms of personal achievement and learning within a group environment cannot be denied. Good chance of getting on the international exchange programme, to spend one term at a prestigious business school in the USA, Europe, Asia or Australasia.

Excellent social scene developed around the multi-cultural makeup of the student body. Non-profit-making MBS club arranges several sports and social events each term. International MBA sports tournament in Paris is excellent!
