Laban - Student View

Housed in a terrific new building (won the Stirling architecture prize) on Creekside, purpose-built for dance training with great facilities. Close to mainline and DLR stations for easy access to central London (use common sense when travelling alone).

SU run by a committee of students but no sabbatical officers. Active. mainly socially, within the college's student body but with increasing interest in political issues.

Challenging course focusing on contemporary dance eg Limon and Graham techniques with ballet and many choreographic opportunities. Emphasis on academic elements on the BA course. Heavy timetable 8.45 am until 6.00 pm most days and weekends when necessary.

Drop-out rate has been high (mainly for financial reasons) but new funding arrangements making things better. Many international students. Range of courses and teaching standards high. Good relations between students and management; it is very free thinking and supports groups of all kinds.
