Oak Hill College - Student Life

Housing: Singles usually accommodated in study bedrooms in main building; most married couples live in college-owned houses and flats on campus. Individual studies available. All on-campus accommodation on college network (and so internet).

Eats: Food on campus good and cheap (Monday to Friday). Lots of variety locally.

Drink: No bar; local pubs OK, especially in Hertfordshire countryside few miles north. Leisure: TV/video room, table tennis, snooker, tennis/basketball courts, football (college team), cricket, croquet! Classical music programme, college drama productions; May ball, Christmas parties, bonfire night, parties etc.

Sports: Swimming (1 mile), squash (next to college), golf. Saracens RFC is opposite college entrance.

Travel: Expenses reimbursed for placements.

Financial help: Various hardship funds. In cases of real need the college community will try to meet the need itself.

Jobs: Various part-time and vacation-work available. Informal name: Oak Hill (former students known as Old Oaks).

Best features: Great courses and grounds, fantastic people.

And worst: Can be quite 'academic' - no bar!

Good news: Sense of community, visitors often comment on the happy and friendly atmosphere. Academic centre - state of the art lecturing and learning facilities. Courses available from 1 year certificate up to 4 year Master's.

Past students: Sir Cliff Richard, John Pantry, various bishops and Anglican big-wigs! Rt Rev George Carey, former Archbishop of Canterbury, was a tutor.
