City University - Student View
In one of the most vibrant and upcoming areas of London, between Islington, Clerkenwell and Hoxton (known as CitySide). This is the centre of the new creative industries, art and entertainments and new designer restaurants, bars and clubs are opening apace (Fabric, Fluid, Dust, Cantaloupe, Schneke) - an exciting and trendy area.
The main site, Northampton Square, is in the triangle formed by the Angel, Old Street, and Barbican (or Farringdon) tube stations, with other academic sites, halls of residences and the sports centre close by. A city-style university, with no live-in campus; most activity and services (including the SU) are in Northampton Square.
Many first and third year students live in university accommodation (priority goes to those from outside London), all self-contained flats within walking distance. Welfare advice and support is mainly provided by the SU although there are trained counsellors in the university's health centre.
The SU consists of 2 lively bars, a restaurant, student shop and book exchange. A full ents programme caters for the diverse student population both on the premises and at some of London's most prestigious venues.
SU is committed to student development and provides a valuable service helping students gain some of the skills needed in the world of work; and a bureau for finding students volunteer work in the local community.
City attracts a wide mix of people due to its central London location. Top subjects include business & finance, law, social & health sciences, journalism, computing & engineering.
