King's College Medical & Dental School - Student View
First two years are spent at the Guy's campus at London Bridge - traditional old medical school across a spacious park from brand new building (New Hunt's House), which houses lecture theatres, laboratories, huge library and 24-hour computer and study rooms. Excellent travel connections, so getting around is easy and as safe as any other big city.
Clinical teaching at Guys, St Thomas', Kings (Denmark Hill) and Lewisham hospitals, with GP placements around London and attachments across the south-east. Courses well arranged, standards of teaching high and students well supported. Intercalated BSc is optional but encouraged (about half the medics take one).
Friendly and exciting atmosphere; nursing, physiotherapy and biomedical students share the campus. Annual events include Diwali and Christmas shows, a musical, one of the country's largest rag weeks (£103k raised last year), fashion show and summer ball. Students with good ideas set up their own events. Social life centred on Guy's SU, with its shops, smart bar, nightclub, and events throughout the week.
London's throbbing heart a stone's throw away, and even the bars, cafes and restaurants around the corner good. Over 100 societies and sports clubs to join; sports grounds are a train ride away in Honor Oak Park, Dulwich and Cobham.
Halls dotted around London but all with good connections to London Bridge; newest halls are ensuite rooms, arranged in apartments; older halls in corridors with shared bathrooms. Accommodation in London is expensive compared to other parts of the country.
