Housing: 3 halls of residence (single rooms, with cleaners, kitchens, bathrooms; weekdays breakfast and lunch); price reasonable. Word of mouth for off-campus housing.

Eats: At the canteen (meals from £3.50, good range of choices). Several formal meals a year. Local pubs - excellent and reasonably priced (from £6). Restaurants in Wye (including chinese and Indian), Canterbury (12 miles) and Ashford (4 miles).

Drink: Well-run union bar; good standard bitters and lagers (from £1.55 a pint - happy hour every Friday). Local pubs - plenty of them, friendly atmospheres and more varied beers. Local brews Shepherd Neame, Master Brew.

Nightlife: Very active SU - discos, live bands, theme nights and official balls. Also cinema in Ashford and theatre in Canterbury. Locals: So so.

Sports: Rugby (men and women), hockey, cricket, football, squash, tennis, badminton, golf, swimming pool, gymnasium, riding, clay shooting, rowing all available on campus. Student-run beagle pack. Annual ski trips, paintball games - in fact anything is possible! Excellent sports facilities at Stow centre. Ashford; some student discounts.

Travel: 60 miles from London. Close to M25, M20; rail to Ashford or Wye; easy to get to the continent via Dover or Ashford. Cheap fares through ULU's STA travel. Louis Dreyfuss award for study in Europe.

Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition fees) is £3000 (in uni or private accommodation).

Financial help: For exceptional financial problems.

Jobs: Bar work in SU bar and local pubs. Some farm and canteen work available on campus. Some harvest work through college.

Best features: Friendly atmosphere.

And worst: Speed that gossip spreads, as everyone knows each other.
