Writtle College - Student View

It's located on the edge of Writtle village just outside Chelmsford (Al2 is minutes away, 20 mins to M11). Extensive campus includes a farm, stud, animal unit, science block and a floristry building.

The halls of residence range from the new Hamilton Hall where rooms are ensuite (and double beds), to the older Dent Hall, which provides basins only! The main teaching block is only a few minutes from the halls of residence, so getting out of bed 5 minutes before lectures is quite common. Social life usually revolves around the bar, where the beer is reasonably priced and consumed in somewhat large quantities!

Alternatively there are the village pubs; and if you venture to Chelmsford there's a vast choice of shops, pubs and clubs. Chelmsford also boasts a cinema, ice-skating rink and bowling alley. Sport is popular with well-established and successful teams in eg rugby, football and hockey; also a women's rugby team and Gaelic football team (large number of Irish students).

A unique identity, many old students return for the larger social events (Snow Ball, Summer Ball) and infamous old student weekend, and stay in touch via the Old Students' Association. This typifies the atmosphere around college. Staff are approachable and you will soon get sucked in by the friendly and sociable atmosphere.
