Hull York Medical School - In Depth
Founded: 2002. Structural features: A partnership between universities of Hull and York.
Sites: First two years spent at either Hull University or York University. Teaching in Years 3-5 in centres across NHS area of Hull and East Riding, York and North Yorkshire, and Northern Lincolnshire.
Academic features: Academic and clinical aspects of the course fully integrated. Course outcome-based, with extensive use of problem-based learning in first 2 years. 50% clinical experience outside hospitals. Extensive use of electronic resources.
Special features: Hull's existing postgraduate medical school has strong research in cardiovascular medicine, cancer surgery, oncology and medical imaging. York's bioscience, health science and social science departments have particular strengths in molecular medicine, psychology and health and social services research.
Awarding body: Joint award by Hull and York universities.
Main undergraduate awards: MB BS.
Length of courses: 5 years.
Library & information services: Libraries and IT services at both universities with access 24-hours/day (see separate descriptions).
Study abroad: Option of taking elective overseas between years 4 and 5.

Living expenses budget: Minimum budget of £4600-£5900 (excluding tuition fees) recommended by medical school.
Tuition fees: Home students up to £1200 pa (in 2005). No international students at present.
