Hull University - Student View

Always had a reputation for being a friendly and welcoming place. Main campus in Hull has all departments and facilities on site, so students experience the community feeling of a campus university whilst being only 10 minutes' bus ride from city centre. Wide variety of courses and rated as excellent in many disciplines; high retention rate of students. Medical school (opened recently) joint with York University.

Scarborough campus is smaller but similar in atmosphere; it specialises in drama, music, arts. Thriving community for international students and university is working hard to attract more students from non-traditional backgrounds.

All first years are guaranteed accommodation, majority in halls of residence, although university-owned houses also available. Most students move into private accommodation in their second year; housing market thriving in Hull and most is of a high standard and rents some of the lowest in the country. Numerous reputable landlords, including the university's own letting company, with houses within 5 mins of campus.

Students' Union is the hub of student life and is reckoned to be one of the best in the country. It has a huge variety of facilities including its own multi-million-pound nightclub (hosting a multitude of club nights), bars, shop, sport and fitness centre. Also excellent SU student support services including advice centre, night-time listening service, academic support and representation, job exchange for part-time employment.

The SU runs a successful volunteering service (HUSSO) organising charitable projects in the local community. Over 130 sports clubs and societies, so there are many opportunities to get involved in new things.

Despite its negative image in the past, Hull has developed immensely over the last few years providing a great lifestyle for students and excellent opportunities for graduates.
