Bournemouth University - Student View

Regarded as a leading vocational university, with a good record on graduate employment. Seven schools, including media, service industries and business. Large intake of international, postgraduate, mature and part-time students. Many courses feature a placement year (can be taken in UK or abroad).

Two main campuses are in Bournemouth, although there are a number of partner colleges eg in Weymouth and Yeovil.

Three halls of residence: Wallisdown campus (Brookside Close!) houses 250 students; Cranbourne House (500 students) and Hurn House (150 students) are both in Lansdowne. Some student flats in town centre and more open this year. University aims to find accommodation for all first years, if not in halls, in hotels and houses.

The Students' Union focuses on student needs, providing advice, representation, clubs, societies and, of course, entertainments. The union owns the Old Firestation nightclub in Lansdowne (1200 capacity), Heat bar a few doors down and Dylans and D2 bars on the Wallisdown campus; events team puts on competitions eg Big Brother.

SU shop, with range of value-for-money products. Union's media department (Nerve media) produces a glossy monthly magazine and has TV and radio station and a highly interactive website.

Lots of opportunities for students to get involved in SU, eg course rep and volunteering.
