Housing: Reasonable prices. Use uni housing department.
Eats: Many restaurants: Fat Cats, Cactus, Zizzi. Pizza Express, as well as takeaways and indian restaurants.
Drink: SU bars, Union Arms and Lonsdale are cheap (pint from £1-£2). Many city bars and clubs have student nights. The Ram and the Bless are cheap; lots of trendy wine and cocktail bars, Friargate, Susumi, Revolution.
Nightlife: SU bars nights (eg Bonk, Carnage); many nightclubs eg Blends at the Gatehouse, Bluenote (indie), Destiny (cheese). Many cinemas, theatres, and the Vic for live music.
Locals: Very friendly. Medium-size city, so fewer of the anxieties of larger cities.
Sports: Gym, swimming pool; football, rugby, netball and hockey pitches.
Travel: Intersite buses; good local buses; plenty of taxis. In the centre of England, so easy and cheap to visit larger cities.
Jobs: Easy to get part-time work (bars, shops etc); uni careers centre helps.
Informal name: Derby Uni.
Best features: Atmosphere; SU; the Atrium; new Devonshire Campus.
And worst: Satellite sites meaning some facilities are fragmented between sites.
