Cambridge Queens' - Student View
It's centrally located, with students from diverse backgrounds; its real strength lies in its balance between work and play. A very friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere and a well-established contact scheme to introduce Freshers to other members of college.
Always plenty going on. Academically, consistently performs well but students are bright rather than self-consciously intellectual.
Facilities generally excellent. Multi-purpose hall used for films (twice weekly), theatre productions and discos (bops). Also 3 music rooms, multigym, 3 squash courts, a table tennis room and a badminton court on site!
Range of societies reflects these facilities, with college theatrical and musical societies amongst the most renowned in Cambridge. Sport played at every level of ability and interest, from 3rd team hockey, to European Championship Tiddlywinks (!), and Queens' teams perform well at a university level. Large sports ground shared with Robinson College, with tennis courts.
College straddles the River Cam and is famous for the misnamed Mathematical Bridge. Punting is popular (college has its own punts), as is sitting out on the lawns in summer.
All undergraduates live on site so good relations between all the years, a friendly atmosphere, and costs are relatively low. Rooms are large on the whole, and are either beautiful or have good facilities (rarely both!). Self-catering is discouraged due to lack of kitchen space, but this means sociable eating in hall.
