Cambridge Peterhouse - Student View
Friendly, lively and unpretentious, it is the oldest and almost the smallest college. The student body is diverse, and the bar is always full of merriment (and cheap alcohol) towards closing.
In a small and intimate college everyone knows everyone else. Sportingly it is comfortably in the middle of the Cambridge range. The library is good for most subjects and excellent for some. Full computing facilities are free. There are male and female teams for most sports including rugby, football, cricket, rowing, hockey, badminton, squash, water polo, skiing, table tennis and tennis.
Because of its relatively small size, it's possible to play all sports as a beginner, yet at the same time Peterhouse has a good share of blues. The shared sports ground comprises three football pitches, a rugby pitch (or a cricket pitch in summer) and all-weather tennis courts.
Accommodation is provided for all students and most has been recently renovated and is of an extremely high standard. Most is at the main college site, and all is in a safe area; there are telephone and internet sockets in all rooms.
A brand new kitchen provides food of a high standard with plenty of choice. The Students' Union provides DVD, video, newspapers, coffee and a pool table. There are several societies - musical, sporting, drinking, theatrical, academic and film - which provide entertainment additional to the bar and the regular events. Bursaries are provided in case of hardship; extensive travel grants available to all. Peterhouse is continually developing as students' needs and preferences change.
Essentially though, it's fantastic fun.
