Founded: 1284; women undergraduates first admitted 1985.

Admission: Flexible admissions policy. Realistic level of offers, with low ratio of offers to places. All candidates interviewed; mode of admission tailored to individual cases. No undergraduates admitted for geography, education or veterinary medicine.

Largest fields of study: History, natural sciences, engineering.

Scholarships: Examination, prizes, scholarships and exhibitions (£50-£150) for performance in Tripos: annual organ scholarship (£250); music awards (£50 plus tuition); further named college examination prizes in many subjects.

Study abroad: Students use university exchange with the universities of Paris, Poitiers and Utrecht.

Travel grants: Approx 25 pa travel grants awarded (average value £200).

Library & information service: Approx 40,000 volumes. Eating arrangements: All meals provided in hall, variable cost dependent on choice.

Gate/guest hours: Gates close at 2 am, when guests, other than overnight guests, required to leave; gate keys issued for out-of-hours use.

Other college facilities: Bar, croquet lawns, squash court, multi-gym, computer room, punts, washing machines, playing fields, boathouse. Library, theatre and concert hall.

Accommodation: All students in college-owned accommodation (first and third years in college, second years next door): £360 per term average (range £200-£500). No first degree students live at home.

Term-time work: No college policy on term-time work (1% believed to work). Some term-time work available as college library assistants.

Financial help: Fund administered by tutors. Help given to any student suffering financial hardship.
