Founded: 1347. Women undergraduates first admitted 1984.
Admission: Applications for admission on A-level or equivalent results or by conditional offer.
Scholarships: College and Foundation scholarships, exhibitions and prizes awarded for merit in university examinations.
Travel grants: Grants towards cost of vacation travel for suitable projects, and to graduate students for research visits.
Library & information services: Reading and borrowing facilities in all degree subjects. Separate IT service, access 24 hours/day; ratio 1:8 workstations to students; all student rooms linked to university data network and internet. IT support from 3 staff members.
Eating arrangements: Self-service breakfast, lunch and evening meal; formal dinner. Fixed charge £300 pa; in addition meals are paid for as taken (eg dinner £3.75). Bar snacks; Sunday brunch.
Gate/guest hours: Gates closed 2 till 6 am, but access for keyholders. Overnight guests permitted by prior arrangement; other guests leave by 2 am.
Other college facilities: Sports (cricket, hockey, rowing, rugby, soccer, squash, netball, tennis, table tennis, multi-gym), music (rehearsal rooms, pianos, organ, instrumental awards scheme). drama room, photographic darkroom, art room, junior parlour, bar, party cellar, extensive gardens.
Accommodation: All students in college or nearby college hostels, some 2-roomed sets but mainly single study bedrooms, centrally heated with wash basins (most with telephones): rents £490-£760 for term weeks. The college operates an automatic means-tested rent rebate scheme. No first degree students live at home.
Term-time work: College does not encourage term-time work.
Financial help: Significant bursaries on means-tested basis.
