Cambridge Churchill - Student Life
Housing: All undergraduates have option to stay on-site for full 3 years; flats for married students.
Eats: College food vastly improved; two veggie options. Chips ad infinitum (well almost). Lots of cheap curry houses and kebab shops in town. Texaco garage shop and new McDonald's next door.
Drink: College bar big and popular. The Pickerel is preferred local pub.
Nightlife: Lively bar with free weekly disco (the Pav); best free night in Cambridge. 2 films a week. Annual Spring Ball (in February!) one of the best value in Cambridge. Numerous parties in college. Lots of ents at all the other colleges.
Sports: Well-kept college pitches on site. Tennis, squash courts, boat club, rugby, football, hockey, american football, artificial nets, multi-gym. Reasonably sporty college (with the emphasis on taking part and on the post-match drinks). Chess, squash, aerobics, canoeing, mountaineering, badminton, sailing - you name it!
Travel: Generous travel grants, both for study and for recreation. Rail station 4 miles, bus station 2 miles. Financial help: Uni-wide Newton Bursary Trust. Variety of college-run bursary schemes and hardship grants, dependent on situation.
Jobs: During term-time work available in college up to 6 hours per week, but otherwise actively discouraged. Vac work available in college particularly over summer. But generally workload too great to give you much time to earn money whatever your subject or college.
Past students: No alumni are household names as yet, but fellows are exceptionally distinguished (have been 12 Nobel prize winners).
